Quarterly platform updates – Spring 2020

Hello! Welcome to the first in the BC Website Design Seasonal Updates series! At the end of every quarter, we will keep you up-to-date with what has changed regarding the platforms that BC Website Design uses. Let’s get started!


35% of websites use WordPress. Keeping your site up-to-date is vital to maintain security.

Current Version: 5.4.2 (Released June 10th 2020)

Key Updates:

  • Security – 5 security issues fixed from 5.4 and earlier versions.

  • Default Theme Updates.

  • Other Updates – Posts, Pages, Icons.


Wix is one of the most popular website builders. Wix doesn’t add updates in one chunk like WordPress. As they add them gradually, updates to the Wix platform are more frequent.

Key Updates:

  • June 19th 2020 – Added ability to add ‘alt’ text to background images. Adding alt text to background images can help make your site more accessible. (The user can’t see this text but it may help google understand your site and people with disabilities).

  • June 19th 2020 – Track Statistics for Your Email Automations. You can get more insights into your email automations with more advanced statistics.

  • May 14th 2020 – Member’s Area. Create a more engaging member area with an improved page layout.


Woocommerce is an eCommerce solution built for WordPress.

Current Version: 4.2.2 (Released June 24th 2020)

Key Updates:

  • Minor Bug Fixes

Current Version: 186 (Released 22nd May 2020)

Key Updates:

  • Improved Contact Form System.

  • Improved User Experience – Get where you want to go quicker.


Updating anything will affect your site’s back office and potentially affect your live site. Note that reverting to previous versions may not be possible. Where possible, create backups before updating. BC Website Design is not responsible for ANY damage caused by updates.
